Breast Surgery

Our surgeons offer comprehensive management of benign and malignant conditions of the breast. We focus on multidisciplinary care of breast cancer. We team with radiology for image-guided surgery. We coordinate with medical oncology for genetic testing and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. We partner with plastic surgeons to perform skin and nipple sparing mastectomy as well as oncoplastic reconstruction. Our efforts with radiation oncology can shorten the interval of postoperative radiation. We also address benign tumors, breast risk reduction, infections, pain and nipple symptoms.

Specialized techniques used:

  • Brachytherapy Radiation Catheters
  • Oncoplastic Breast Closures
  • Ultrasound Guided Surgery and Procedures

Colorectal Surgery

Surgeons at Summit Surgical treat a wide variety of colon and rectal conditions, from appendicitis, diverticulitis, polyps and cancers, to inflammatory bowel disease, trauma and torsions. Many of our cases are done with minimally invasive techniques, using a thin camera and instruments. We also treat hemorrhoids, fissures, abscesses and other anorectal problems. We work closely with gastroenterologists in the Eugene-Springfield area to come up with a comprehensive treatment plan for each patient.

Specialized techniques used:

  • Laproscopic Assisted Surgery
  • Transanal Resection of Tumors
  • Robotic Assisted Surgery

Endocrine Surgery

Summit Surgical Specialists are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to our patients with surgical disorders of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands and the adrenal glands. We routinely use intra-operative rapid parathyroid hormone levels and radio-guided techniques, which help to ensure the operation is minimally invasive. Our focus is not only on a safe and effective operation, but also on minimizing pain, improving recovery times and minimizing scar formation. With an active interest in endocrine surgery, our providers strive to include both the science and the art in the way we provide care for our patients.

Specialized techniques used:

  • NIMS: An electronic method of locating and monitoring the recurrent lyrngeal nerve during surgery
  • Interoperative PTH: A laboratory method to rapidly determine the completeness of parathyroid adenoma removal
  • Neoprobe Targeted Surgery: A radio nucleotide-aided method of locating parathyroid glands and tumors

General Surgery

General Surgery includes a broad variety of abdominal procedures. Hernias are defects in our strength layer that can cause pain or obstruction. Gallstones and appendicitis may cause pain or illness. Esophageal reflux can significantly decrease your quality of life. We offer minimally invasive solutions to these and other problems.

Specialized techniques used:

  • Laproscopic Assisted Surgery
  • Robotic Assisted Hernia Surgery
  • Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery

Minor Office Procedures

Many conditions lend themselves to be treated in the surgeon's office under local anesthesia without the effects of sedation. This gives the patient the advantage of having the procedure at much less cost than in a hospital or surgery center. We have two surgery rooms specifically designed for this purpose. Procedures, both elective and urgent are accommodated in our office. These include biopsies, lump and lipoma removal, injury repair, and treatment of selected infections requiring surgery. State of the art Breast Mammosite radiation catheter procedures are done in our office. Patients should discuss the possibility of office-based surgery with their surgeon to see if their condition is amenable to this approach.

Surgical Oncology

The surgeons at Summit Surgical treat a wide variety of solid tumors. Examples of tumors treated, include breast, melanoma and other rare skin cancers, upper gastrointestinal, small intestine, colon and rectal, sarcomas of the abdomen and extremity, thyroid and adrenal and tumors related to lymph nodes.

Treatment plans are developed through a multidisciplinary approach. This involves conference with other specialists including medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, social services and nutrition. This approach allows for an intersection of ideas and experience which leads to better quality and coordination of treatment plans and improved outcomes.

Specialized techniques used:

  • Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy
  • Genetic Testing
  • Laparoscopic Surgeries
  • Robotic Assisted Surgeries

Why chose a vascular surgeon?

Vascular surgeons treat all the veins and arteries in the vascular system except the brain and heart. Today's vascular surgeons are the only medical discipline trained to care for patients using every vascular treatment available including noninvasive diagnostic tests, medical treatments, minimally invasive procedures, and open surgeries when necessary. This expertise uniquely qualifies vascular surgeons to determine the most accurate diagnosis and prescribe the best treatment. In some other medical disciplines, doctors perform less invasive treatments but cannot perform surgery. In other medical disciplines, doctors are skilled with one particular organ but they are not specialists in the entire vascular system like a vascular surgeon is.
